Notes from the build

Sarah's House was designed as a family home first and an architectural exercise second — and the discipline shows. The plan organises around an interior courtyard, living spaces opening onto it from three sides. The residence breathes naturally even in the dry season.

Modern Lao Homes delivered with a calm material palette — local masonry, timber, single restrained metal accent — and resisted over-finishing. Surfaces were left to read as themselves. Joinery is tight, not fussy. The house feels lived-in from hand-over day.

The gallery photographs were taken by the family, not a commercial photographer. That is the point: the house photographs well in the way that matters — at family scale, in ordinary light, on an ordinary day.
